International Business Mediation Competition (IBMC) – Bringing together students and professionals in commercial mediation, negotiation, and dispute resolution in Amsterdam. Fostering practical experience in business conflicts.

Teams consist of two to four students currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program during the 2024–2025 or 2025–2026 academic year. In short: if you have studied or will be studying in 2025, you are eligible to participate.

Students from a wide range of disciplines such as law, economics, PPLE, business, University College programs, psychology, commerce, management, and related fields are welcome to apply.

The competition is especially suited for everyone with an interest in (commercial) dispute resolution, whether or not they have prior experience in mediation or negotiation. Both experienced participants and those new to the field are warmly encouraged to join. Please note that students may participate a maximum of two times as active participants, and may do so in consecutive editions.

Each team may also register up to two coaches — either students or professionals — to attend the sessions as observers. Coaches are not permitted to intervene during the mediation sessions. While their team is still competing, coaches may only observe the rounds in which their own team is participating. Once their team is no longer competing, they and any other team members are welcome to observe any session.

If any team members require a visa to enter the Netherlands, they must indicate this clearly during registration. We count on the punctuality and professionalism of participants to manage their visa process in time. While the organization will provide supporting documents where needed, arranging and obtaining the visa remains the responsibility of the team members themselves.

Please note that the IBMC is an in-person event. All sessions take place on location in Amsterdam; remote participation is not possible. We encourage teams to register early to secure their place in the competition.

As part of the registration process, the team leader will be asked to confirm participation conditions on behalf of the team — including a fully refundable participation fee of €35 per team member, consent declarations, and visa needs. The form also includes a short (non-binding) question about interest in the optional social program. Team composition may still be adjusted up to the moment of acceptance, provided eligibility requirements are met.
