International Business Mediation Competition (IBMC) – Bringing together students and professionals in commercial mediation, negotiation, and dispute resolution in Amsterdam. Fostering practical experience in business conflicts.

Professionals can indicate in the form whether they wish to participate as a mediator, judge, or observer.

For the role of mediator, we’re particularly interested in professionals with experience in commercial mediation. That said, we also welcome mediators from other practice areas or professional backgrounds who are enthusiastic about supporting student learning through realistic mediation sessions.

For the role of judge, we value professionals with a background in teaching, training, or coaching—especially those experienced in interpersonal skills such as negotiation, mediation, or communication. These skills often align closely with the ability to provide students with structured, constructive feedback and thoughtful evaluation.

We invite all professionals to reflect on where their strengths lie and how they can best support the students’ development throughout the competition.

As part of the application, we ask professionals to provide a rough indication of how many hours they have independently and professionally acted in that role. While there is no strict minimum requirement, this information helps us understand your background and experience so we can make a balanced selection aligned with the needs of the competition. We warmly encourage applicants at all stages of their careers to apply. We strongly believe that diversity in perspectives, backgrounds, and professional journeys enriches the students’ learning experience and the dynamic of the competition.

Furthermore, we reserve a few spots for talented early-career professionals. Selected junior judges will be paired with experienced judges, forming a team that jointly observes a session and provides unified scoring and feedback. This allows the junior professional to contribute meaningfully while also learning through active collaboration with a seasoned peer.

If a visa is required to travel to the Netherlands, please mention this clearly in the registration form. While we are happy to provide supporting documentation, obtaining a visa remains the responsibility of each participant. We trust all selected professionals to handle this process promptly and professionally.

Please note that the IBMC is an in-person event. All sessions take place on location in Amsterdam; remote participation is not possible.

As part of the registration process, professionals will also be asked to confirm their availability and agree to notify the organizing team in case their circumstances change. Optional consent questions related to photographs, video, and website publication are included, as well as a non-binding question about interest in the social program. None of these affect eligibility to participate.
